BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

It is normally the trainer and the jockey that is sought out for information and accolades when the horse is successful. Generally owners do not seek the limelight and get their enjoyment in seeing their horses in training and competing on race day. But never the less owners are the backbone of the industry for without them there could not be racing.

It is owners that take the financial risks. Everyone else gets paid for their services, the trainers, jockeys, race clubs, wagering organisations etc. When a horse loses and this is the greater portion of the time, everyone else gets paid except the owner and the unsuccessful punter. Here in Tasmania is no exception with owners possibly worse off with lower prize money and fewer opportunities to race.

To help ease this burden on owners, TROA seeks out benefits and cost savings such as those featured below:

The Owners Benefit Scheme (OBS) which is an "Unplaced Starters"; subsidy that has reduced owner's race day costs. It assists in softening the cost to those owners whose horses do not run a place.

TROA also contributes to operation and establishment of bonuses paid through the SuperVobis scheme in Tasmania which has had significant increases over the last two years.

TROA has successfully advocated for increase prize money.

TROA gives owners a voice within the industry

TROA obtains privileges for its members with race clubs and the like.

TROA has also consistently sponsored races through out the State for the benefit of owners.

TROA has successfully over recent years been able to have some of the industry costs previously passed onto owners defrayed elsewhere in the industry. eg. increases in jockey fees and insurances.
