THE TASMANIAN Thoroughbred Racing Council is
again looking for a new chief executive.
Rohan Mitchell has resigned after a short, but
eventful 18 months in the position and is
returning to Victoria.
His predecessor Charlotte Dickie, also recruited
from Victoria, lasted only 15 months before
moving to Western Australia.
TTRC chairman Rod Thirkell- Johnston said that
Mitchell had made "a very valuable contribution
to the advancement of thoroughbred racing in
Tasmania".
"The many initiatives and improvements
implemented during his time will continue to
benefit racing well into the future," he said.
"The introduction of workers' compensation for
jockeys, restructuring of the TasVobis incentive
scheme and improving prizemoney are among his
many achievements.
"The reforming of prizemoney distributions
increased returns to owners and maximized
turnover.
"Rohan has also overseen improvements to OH&S
for the industry and deserves praise for his
management of the equine influenza situation."
Mitchell is expected to finish up in late
September.
The TTRC will consider a replacement "in the
coming weeks."
